Lightning: Our Understanding of How it Works & the Various Methods & Standards Used When Trying to Protect Against It
The purpose of this meeting is to explain how Early Streamer Emission (E.S.E.) air terminals work, the advantages that these types of systems offer and to allow you all an opportunity to speak with a lightning protection expert named Robert W. Rapp. Bob Rapp is (and has been for 19 years now) a sitting board member of the committee that writes the NFPA 780 Standard for the Installation of Lightning Protection Systems. He is also the president of National Lightning Protection in Denver, CO; a firm that specializes in E.S.E. & conventional lightning protection systems, grounding, and TVSS. Bob will offer crucial insight into the radical changes made by the NFPA 780 committee as well as UL 96A and their master label, with regards to new TVSS surge protection requirements for when conventional lightning protection systems are installed. We will also cover the IEEE substation committee's recent decision to include the option of E.S.E. use in their document.
