Program: Galvanize It! in Structural Applications
Program Overview: Hot dip galvanizing provides steel with long-lasting protection against corrosion. From a value engineering standpoint, galvanizing and other metallic zinc coating systems are also cost competitive with paints and polymeric coatings. This seminar will provide an overview of the properties of zinc coatings and the production methods for applying them to steel and other metals. Design considerations for galvanized structures will be covered including steel selection, fatigue resistance of members and welds, use of galvanized bolts in bearing and friction connections, and advantages of galvanized rebar in concrete. Examples of successful projects will be shown.
