Building Energy Quotient: What is the Program, What are the Features, & What Does it Mean to the Market?

The program will present the components of the Building Energy Quotient (bEQ) program that was rolled out less than two months ago. Building Energy Quotient (bEQ) is a building energy labeling program that lets commercial building owners zero in on opportunities to lower building operating cost and make informed decisions to increase value. bEQ's In Operation rating applies an easily understood scale to compare a commercial building's energy use with similar buildings. What makes bEQ unique is the depth of the analysis upon which the rating is based. 

This program will describe the aspects of bEQ.  The attendees should learn the basis of the energy performance assessments, the rating systems and the role of engineers in the ratings program.  The program features will be explained and an example of an energy assessment will be reviewed.

As Director of Energy Programs for Working Buildings, Hoy Bohanon works closely with clients to promote sustainability and improve energy efficiency in both new and existing buildings. Mr. Bohanon began his engineering career as a research and design engineer, and then gained experience as a project engineer, facilities engineer, facilities manager, indoor air quality research engineer, environmental engineer, and business owner. He has a master’s degree in engineering from North Carolina State University, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.
