National Engineer's Week (E-Week) is Feb 19-25!
PENC is working with the local chapter of ASCE to reach out to students in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender Counties. We are looking for engineer volunteers to visit classes during E-week and get students excited about engineering. Please contact Kelly Ham at kham@mckimcreed.com to volunteer or for more information.
For those unfamiliar with E-week, it is a national volunteer effort to promote engineering to students (K-12). Generally, an E-week volunteer will spend about 45 min to an hour in a classroom discussing aspects of engineering. The topic is completely up to the volunteer. For example, the volunteer could discuss their job, projects they've worked on, or conduct fun hand's on activities that involve engineering, math, or science concepts. More info on E-week is available at www.eweek.org.
Please consider donating just one hour of your time to give back to local school children and to promote the engineering profession. This is a very exciting and rewarding experience. You will be glad you participated.
PENC and ASCE representatives are in process of contacting local schools and we will begin matching volunteers to class time slots in the next few weeks.
If you know someone else who would be interested in volunteering, please spread the word.
