Senator Bill Rabon Presented First
PENC Legislator of the Year Award

Senator Bill Rabon accepted the 2012 Legislator of the Year Award at the annual summer conference in June from Betsy Bailey, Executive Director of PENC. This award represents the first ever award given by the association to a legislator.
“We were delighted to present Senator Rabon with this award,” said Betsy Bailey. “It was our way of saying thank you for all he has done and continues to do to support the profession of engineering in the state of North Carolina. Senator Rabon recognizes the value of licensed professional engineers in protecting the public safety and welfare and stood up for us on issues that weren’t so popular politically. We need more legislators like Senator Rabon that are willing to stand up for what they believe in regardless of the consequences. I have the utmost respect for him and all he has accomplished in such a short time in the legislature."
About Senator Rabon:
Senator Rabon represents District 8, comprised of Pender, Columbus and Brunswick counties in the North Carolina Senate. Senator Rabon was unanimously elected by the 13 Senate Republican freshmen to serve as the Republican Freshman Class Leader.
Rabon is Co-chairman of Transportation, Vice-Chairman of Appropriations on Department of Transportation and Vice-Chairman of Finance. Senator Rabon also serves on Agriculture /Environment / Natural Resources; Health Care and Program Evaluation committees.
Senator Rabon also serves on the Revenue Laws Study Committee, Environmental Review Commission and is Senate Chairman of the Transportation Oversight Joint Legislative Committee.

Stewart Engineering Helps Dedicate
Greenway and Pedestrian Bridge
Robert Macia, PE, LEED AP, president of Stewart Engineering, has announced that the firm helped dedicate the Swift Creek Greenway and Pedestrian Bridge along Regency Parkway in Cary, N.C. While the project has been completed for a few months, the ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 in conjunction with National Trails Day. The Swift Creek Greenway, a 1.03-mile trail constructed of recycled asphalt, is the nation's first greenway built completely with recycled products. This section of the Swift Creek Greenway includes a pedestrian bridge over the Swift Creek and creates a connection to Regency Park and the Koka Booth Amphitheater. The trailhead and parking for the greenway is located at Ritter Park. Stewart Engineering, the design consultant for this project, dedicated the greenway along with the Town of Cary's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department.
"Stewart Engineering is honored to join the Town of Cary Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources to celebrate National Trails Day and dedicate the Swift Creek Greenway and Pedestrian Bridge," said Iona Thomas, associate vice president and greenway design group manager. "It was wonderful to have everyone who had a hand in the project come together to celebrate the opening of a trail that will serve as a great addition to the Cary community." The Swift Creek Greenway and Pedestrian Bridge is now open to the public and is family and pet-friendly.
